Captivating the King is an upcoming internationally licensed South Korean historical romantic drama series. The series is directed by Jo Nam Gook, who previously directed both seasons of The Good Detective, Untouchable and Fast. Kim Sung Deok is the screenwriter of the series and his first series in five years after previously writing The Crowned Clown.
When is Captivating the King coming to Netflix?
The first two episodes of Captivating the King will be released on Netflix on Sunday, January 21st, 2024.
There will be a total of sixteen episodes. New episodes will be available to stream on Saturdays and Sundays. Each episode will have a runtime of 80 minutes.
The series finale is scheduled for Sunday, March 10th, 2024.

What is the plot of Captivating the King?

“Lee In is a prince. His older brother is King Lee Sun, who cares about him a lot. Vowing loyalty to his older brother, Lee In is taken hostage by the Qing Dynasty. King Lee Sun soon views his younger brother’s loyalty as betrayal and begins to hate him.
Lee In endures deep emotional pain because of this. Lee In then meets an unknown baduk player who wagers on her games. He is completely fascinated by the baduk player. Through circumstances, Lee In becomes the king. He holds the highest position and is a strong person, but he is sad and weak internally.
When Kang Hee Soo was gaining fame as an unknown baduk player, she met Prince Lee In and fell in love with him. Through a vortex of fate, she becomes a spy. She approaches King Lee In to get her revenge.”
Who are the cast members of Captivating the King?
There are three confirmed lead roles for the K-drama.
Jo Jung Suk will play the role of Lee In. This is the actor’s first K-drama for almost three years after starring in both Hospital Playlist seasons as Lee Ik Jun. He is also well known for starring in popular K-dramas such as Oh My Ghost, The Nokdu Flower, and King2Hearts.
Shin Sae Kyeong will play the role of Kang Hee Soo/Kangh Mong Woo. The actress recently starred in the Arthdal Chronicles sequel, The Sword of Aramun. Captivating the King is her first weekly K-drama for Netflix in almost four years since she last starred in Run On.
Lee Shin Young will play the role of Kim Myung Ha. The first and only K-drama Lee Shin Young previously starred in was Crash Landing on You in the role of Park Kwang Beom.
