One of Netflix’s Emmy-winning episodes, USS Callister, is set to receive a spin-off series on the streaming service, What’s on Netflix has learned. A new limited series comprising of three episodes is scheduled to begin production later this year.

Released as the first episode of Black Mirror Season 4, “USS Callister” follows the story of a gaming company’s CTO. He is the mastermind behind a popular multiplayer game and has a private copy of it, which he uses to torment his colleagues who fail to show him respect in the office. The episode, featuring a Star Trek aesthetic, stars Jesse Plemons in the leading role.

This is not our first discussion about a USS Callister spinoff. In June 2021, we reported that Netflix was in the process of developing a spin-off of the episode, though there has been little news since then.

In recent months, it was unveiled that Black Mirror would be returning for a seventh season at Netflix. This information first emerged through listings on various individuals’ profiles for a project titled HAVEN GREEN, but we couldn’t get Netflix to comment or confirm it was Black Mirror at the time. On November 21st, Netflix France accidentally confirmed the upcoming seventh season. We also discovered shortly after that Toby Haynes would be directing again for the new season.

Set to be filmed in the United Kingdom, the show aims to begin shooting in Spring 2024 and will last for ten weeks. Details about the spin-off’s plot remain confidential.

Broke and Bones, the production company established by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, is producing the limited series along with Pacesetter Productions, Inc., managed by Jessica Rhoades, who joined Black Mirror in season 5.

Who will return for Black Mirror: USS Callister?

The USS Callister episode featured Jesse Plemons as Robert Daly and Cristin Milioti as Nanette Cole, a new recruit at the company. Other cast members included Jimmi Simpson as Walton, Michaela Coel as Shania, and Milanka Brooks as Elena Tulaska.

It’s our understanding that Plemons, Milioti, and Simpson are confirmed to return for the new limited series. Michaela Coel, Milanka Brooks, Paul G Raymond, Osy Ikhile, and Billy Magnussen are expected to return or are currently in talks.

The series will also introduce a new character named Rinko.
