Die Hard is a huge movie franchise starring Bruce Willis and around November and December of each year, the films popularity spikes which is why we’re asking today, are the Die Hard movies on Netflix?
Although there are constantly raging debates as to whether Die Hard is or is not a Christmas franchise, we always update this article around the holiday season so it seems pretty much definitive.
The badass movies have seen five released in total with those being:
- Die Hard (1998)
- Die Hard 2 (1990)
- Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995)
- Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
- A Good Day to Die Hard (2013)
Why are the Die Hard movies on Netflix in the United States?
We’ll begin with why Die Hard isn’t streaming on Netflix domestically.
Sadly, Netflix doesn’t get the rights to 20th Century Fox films anymore. That includes both newer movies and older movies from the library. Fox pulled out of Netflix completely a couple of years ago and we haven’t seen TV or series come from the provider since.
There are some streaming options but there’s no way of streaming all of the Die Hard movies without some VoD intervention. The first Die Hard is available on Crackle but is ad-supported. The 2017 Live Free or Die Hard is available this holiday season on Starz.

Where you can see Die Hard on Netflix
In 2019, for the first time, you can catch the first Die Hard on Netflix across the world but there’s a big caveat. As one of the episodes featured in ‘The Movies That Made Us’ they go in-depth with two major Christmas movie franchises. They take a deep dive into Home Alone (sadly also not streaming on Netflix in 2019) and also look at the first Die Hard movie.
Some of the movies are available on Netflix in other regions. Die Hard: With a Vengeance is available on Netflix for those in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. The 2013 movie, A Good Day to Die Hard, is available on Netflix in some Asian regions such as Hong Kong, South Korea, and Thailand.
