The success of The Hunger Games has been no fluke. Whether it’s the cast, source material, action sequences or the premise itself one way or another, we’ve all become hooked one of this decade’s greatest movie series. Based on the books the 4 movies have catapulted the lead actress’s career into another solar system. Jennifer Lawrence plays the role of Katniss Everdeen a citizen of District 12 who’s been forced into a life of death after volunteering for The Hunger Games. The games represents a killing arena where two people from every district fights to the death once a year.
Up until now Netflix has been a key part in the movies ongoing marketing campaign giving the chance for people to catch up on the movies before the next comes to the cinema. So let’s have a look as to whether parts 1 and 2 of The Hunger Games : Mockingjay will be heading to Netflix over the next year or so.
Netflix US
While The Hunger Games has been one of the stand-out movies for the US over the past year a lapse in a major content for the streaming service in the region means that all of the Hunger Game movies have been removed indefinitely. The contract between Netflix and Epix lapsed in October removing hundreds of titles and preventing any further ones from being added, unfortunately the Hunger Games was part of this list. It’s thought that these titles will instead to go to streaming rivals Amazon Prime.
Netflix UK
Unlike the US, the United Kingdom, at least to the best of our knowledge, still has a contract in place bringing the library of titles the service. As of right now, you can watch Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 on the service. What we’re not sure however, is that we’ll be getting part 2. Ordinarily we’d expect it to land in the middle of the summer, so summer 2016, but given that it’s the last movie in the franchise, it’s unknown whether the last part will be put up as it’s no longer needed to for marketing purpose.
Of course, if anything changes we’ll keep you up to date here on What’s on Netflix.
