Fans of Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown had a bittersweet end to September as the latest seasons were added to Netflix. On the flip side, all of the older series have now been removed from Netflix. Here’s what we know and whether the older seasons will return.

The cooking show which is often regarded as one of the best on television right now has spiked in popularity this year mainly because the show’s lead tragically passed away earlier in 2018. Netflix was streaming the first eight seasons of the show up until recently.

The show has been scheduled to be removed multiple times throughout 2018. The first removal date gained a massive amount of press attention. The series was then up for removal again in October 2018.

The removal and new episodes are likely due to the upcoming new season due to air on CNN later this year.

What happened to Parts Unknown on Netflix?

So what actually happened is that on September 30th, Netflix did a bit of a refresh with Parts Unknown. What happened is that newer seasons of the show were added and older series were removed.

This has left Netflix with seasons 7 through to 11 bringing us up to date. Each season consists of eight episodes and now will likely be renewed for a year.

This is not uncommon on Netflix, particularly with documentary series. It happens where Netflix only chooses to license the newer season while not retaining the rights to older seasons. The reason for this is sometimes relevancy but that’s unlikely to be the case with Parts Unknown given the press attention.

Where are the previous seasons now streaming?

Updated: it’s been brought to our attention that the official CNN application on several devices carry the older seasons but are supported by advertisements and in most cases, requires a cable subscription.

Unfortunately, no new home was announced for the show. Netflix still remains the only streaming service for Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown. All your regular video-on-demand services still retain the older seasons of the show.

Are you disappointed that the older seasons of Parts Unknown are no longer on Netflix? Let us know in the comments.
