We’re slowly getting word of all the new movies and series coming up on Netflix US throughout April 2024. One of the movies we just learned will be dropping is the recently released The Bricklayer, starring Aaron Eckhart. It is due out on April 11th for an unknown period. Here’s what you need to know.

Only hitting theaters back in January 2024 and grossing just shy of a million at the box office, The Bricklayer comes from Vertical Releasing and stars Eckhart alongside Nina Dobrev, Tim Blake Nelson, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Clifton Collins Jr.

It comes from Finnish director Renny Harlin, who has a long history in the action genre, having worked on titles like Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone, Die Hard 2 with Bruce Willis, and The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Per the distributor of the movie, here’s what you can expect from the film when it drops:

“When a rogue insurgent blackmails the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and framing the government, the agency must lure their most brilliant yet rebellious operative out of retirement to unravel the international conspiracy.”

Reviews for the movie haven’t been particularly strong from either audiences or critics thus far, but it’ll be interesting to see how it fares when it drops on Netflix. It currently holds a 50% RottenTomatoes score.

Nick Rogers for the Midwest Film Journal was perhaps the most praising overall, saying, “It’s faint praise to call this Renny Harlin’s best film in 25 years. So, more vivid praise: The VOD action sphere could use more of the nuts-and-bolts craftsmanship, thematic foundation & truly wrenching gore he has brought to this Aaron Eckhart vehicle.”

As mentioned, the movie hit theaters in January 2024 and launched day-and-date on VOD platforms like Apple, Google and others. Its addition to Netflix will mark the first time it’s available on an SVOD platform but notably only applies to Netflix in the United States – other regions’ lineups vary dramatically when it comes to licensed titles.

This is just one of many movies Netflix has acquired the SVOD streaming rights in the first window for from Vertical Releasing. In the past, we’ve covered them, picking up The Tutor, The God Committee, SAS: Red Notice, and all the After romance movies.
