Netflix continues to invest heavily in sports documentary programming. It has made its second major acquisition from CW in recent months, with 100 Days to Indy scheduled to arrive on Netflix in the United States on April 4th, 2024.
The show provides “unprecedented” behind-the-scenes access, following multiple drivers from the NTT INDYCAR SERIES as they prepare for the Indianapolis 500 automobile race.
The first season focused on multiple drivers, including Helio Castroneves, Marcus Ericsson, Josef Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin, and Romain Grosjean, who will be familiar to F1: Drive to Survive fans.
The show was produced by Penske Entertainment and Vice World News for CW, which aired the first season and consisted of six episodes, with those airing on the network between April and June 2023. A month ago, IndyCar and CW announced that they had given the docu-series a second season renewal covering the 2024 season.
The addition of 100 Days to Indy comes as somewhat of a surprise given that the show already has found a streaming home in the US. Paramount+ notably began streaming the show from February 16th, 2024 of this year but will now share the title with Netflix US.
This is the second partnership between Netflix and CW in recent months. Netflix notably teamed up and licensed the final batch of episodes from CW’s long-running Inside the NFL series in the US running up through to the Super Bowl.
Netflix now has documentaries covering the majority of the most significant motorsport leagues in the world. It obviously pioneered the genre with Formula 1: Drive to Survive, which has been renewed for a seventh season and more recently debuted its NASCAR docu-series in January 2024, with that one yet to get a season 2 renewal as of the time of publishing.
