Two Pokémon series were set to be leaving Netflix in the US in March 2024, including both Pokémon Journeys and Pokémon Master Journeys. This is not the case anymore, with the two seasons given short license extensions to match some of the other Pokémon shows.
Note: This article was first published on February 4th, 2024 and has been updated to reflect the extension.
In case you weren’t aware, the main Pokémon series has been running since the late 1990s, and like Power Rangers, each season is labeled with a different season name. For the past few years, Netflix has been exclusively distributing these seasons in the United States.
Here’s a rundown of the two shows leaving:
- Pokémon Journeys (Season 23) was released over the course of 4 parts between June 2020 and March 2021. 48 episodes in total.
- Pokémon: Master Journeys (Season 24) was released over the course of three parts between September 2021 and May 2022. 42 episodes in total.
Both titles displayed “Last day to watch on Netflix” notifications listed for March 4th, with the actual day of removal scheduled for March 5th.
As you may know, Netflix will soon be the streaming home in the United States for Horizons (Season 26), originally scheduled for release in February and will begin rolling out in March 2024.
The removals coincided roughly two years following the last big batch of Pokémon titles leaving Netflix in 2022. Then, we saw Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us, and Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon depart on April 1st.
As of February 8th, these removal notes have now been removed, and we can reveal that they’ve been renewed through to September 8th, 2024. This coincides with removal dates currently planned for Pokémon Ultimate Journeys and Pokémon To Be A Pokémon Master, which will also leave Netflix in 2024, but not until later in the year. Our intel currently suggests that both of those are scheduled for departure in the back half of the year, in or around September 8th, 2024.
Licensed titles (whether Netflix Original or otherwise) departures are always subject to change.
Will Other Pokémon movies/shows leave Netflix?
Netflix US will keep its other library of other Pokémon titles for the foreseeable including:
- Pokémon Indigo League through to November 2025
- Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles is licensed through 2027
- Pokémon The Movie: Secrets of the Jungle is licensed through 2028
- Pokémon Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is licensed through 2030
Finally, the recently released stop-motion series Pokémon: Concierge is a permanent fixture of the Netflix library and won’t depart.
