The purge of British shows from Netflix in 2019 will continue in November with another incredibly popular title due to leave the service come November 2nd. This is your first warning that Last Tango in Halifax is leaving Netflix.
Last Tango in Halifax is a British romantic series about “two widowed childhood sweethearts fall for each other all over again when they are reunited over the Internet after nearly 60 years.”
The series comes from Sally Wainwright who has produced many British delights over the years including Happy Valley which is still streaming on Netflix.
According to our records, the series has been streaming on Netflix since March 2014 so you’ve had multiple years to stream the show.
This year alone we’ve seen many BBC shows leave as well as the removal of favorites of Death in Paradise and the recent removal of the incredibly popular series Midsomer Murders.
Why is it happening? It’s simple, Netflix is either choosing not to renew its contracts with the license holders or, and possibly more likely, the license holders are choosing to run an auction on its shows or just choosing to put its shows exclusively on platforms they hold a stake in.
Only Netflix US is showing the leaving date for November 2nd at present.
Where will Last Tango in Halifax stream once it leaves Netflix?
No new home has been announced as of yet. Over the past few months, we’ve seen many of the BBC and ITV shows move exclusively to either Britbox or Acorn TV.
Acorn TV or Britbox seems to be the obvious choices at this stage but it may be a while until the contracts switch over.
Netflix Canada also recently lost Last Tango in Halifax with many Netflixers complaining when it left back in August 2018.
