December 2019 is set to see further slashing of the BBC library on Netflix US as the BBC pulls another popular series from the service. A Young Doctor’s Notebook and Other Stories is scheduled to be removed from Netflix on December 26th, 2019.
Note: the removal date only applies to Netflix US which is the only Netflix region streaming A Young Doctor’s Notebook.
Starring Daniel Radcliffe and Jon Hamm, the comedy series which spanned two seasons was set during the Russian revolution in the early 20th century and a doctor’s memory working in a small village hospital.
Although marketed as a BBC show, it was only distributed by the BBC in international regions. In the United Kingdom, the series actually first aired on Sky Arts. The series aired back in 2012 and arrived on Netflix in 2015 meaning you’ve had four years to watch.
Both seasons are scheduled to be removed from Netflix the day after Christmas Day, December 26th. It’ll be leaving on the same day that Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown is also scheduled to depart.
2019 has been a bad year for British content on Netflix. Early in the year, it saw a huge collection of titles lost from the BBC. Fan-favorite Midsomer Murders left in October, popular series Merlin is due to leave in December as is the BBC Earth library.
Netflix is ramping up its British Netflix Original output and there’s still plenty of co-productions with British TV companies to look forward to. In general, however, the BBC and other British broadcasters are taking back contracts (just like other providers in the US) in favor of adding them to the likes of Britbox and AcornTV.
