The Four Seasons, Paul, The Eternaut – Pictures: Netflix / Universal Pictures
Another week is here and we’ll soon be crossing over to May and fast approaching the midway point of the year. This week, thanks to crossing into a new month, there’s a lot of turnover on the Netflix library, plus some big new Netflix Originals, including one of the most ambitious international titles of the year and a new comedy series featuring favorites like Colman Domingo and Tina Fey. Here’s what’s coming to Netflix between April 28 and May 4, 2025.
For the complete list of what’s coming up on Netflix in May 2025, we’ve got you covered in our comprehensive preview, which we just updated this morning with even more release dates confirmed for the month, including the Nicolas Cage movie Pig. As always, when we cross over into a new month, there’ll be a high turnover of licensed movies in particular. Below, we’ve covered the preliminary list of the latest titles, but we do have the full list of movies and series leaving on the first of the month.
Most Anticipated New Releases on Netflix This Week
The Four Seasons (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: Thursday
Releasing alongside a crowded first of the month lineup is Netflix’s biggest new comedy of the year so far, The Four Seasons. Serving as a reboot for the movie starring Alan Alda and Carol Burnett, the series has some heavyweights in it. From Tina Fey to Will Forte to Steve Carell to Colman Domingo, among others, this, on paper at least, should be a winner. The plot essentially follows the original movie, with six old friends reuniting for a weekend away. However, things soon become complicated when it’s revealed that one of the couples is on the verge of separation. From there, we then go on another three vacations with the trio of couples.
Paul (2011)
Coming to Netflix: Thursday
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are a formidable on-screen duo best known for working on the Cornetto Trilogy with director Edgar Wright. Thankfully, it’s not the only time on screen they’ve teamed up. In 2011, they came together for a relatively overlooked sci-fi comedy, in which the duo played Comic Con attendees exploring all things US in a giant RV. Consumed by all things sci-fi, they are allowed to partake in their own adventure when they come across a little alien, voiced by Seth Rogen, who needs to call home and avoid being captured by the feds.
Astérix & Obelix: The Big Fight (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: Wednesday
In what is one of the biggest animation projects to come out of Europe in years, we’ll see the classic French comic strip that’s been adapted in numerous fashions over the decades brought together in a limited event series. “When the village druid forgets how to prepare their magic potion, Asterix, Obelix and the Gauls must find new ways to keep the Roman conquerors at bay,” reads the official synopsis.
Last week, we published our review for the new series and gave it a four-star rating. We concluded, “Delivers laughs, impressive cartoon sequences, strong character arcs for its very famous central duo, and surprises on equal footing. Just like the Gallic village, this one is gonna be hard to defeat in terms of quality this year. It’s also a strong start if Netflix orders more premium original animated series.”
The Eternaut (Limited Series)
Coming to Netflix: Wednesday
Speaking of ambitious projects, we come to The Eternaut, which Netflix has done its best over the past year to introduce to English-speaking audiences with spotlights at Geeked Week, among other locations. Based on the critically acclaimed comic book from the late 1950s, the new series follows a group of survivors fighting against a seemingly invisible force following a deadly snowfall containing a deadly toxin that wipes out millions from the global population. Netflix spared no expense here, we’ll see how it plays out come Wednesday.
