Netflix Original Movies Netflix 2016

Movies is a relatively new space for Netflix to be getting involved with but as with most things, they didn’t dip their toes in rather opting to go head first with some big hitting movies to round out 2015. The Ridiculous 6 and Beasts of No Nation immediately comes to mind.

As we look ahead to the new year, we’re going to be looking into everything we know about the Netflix Original movie lineup for the year of 2016. It’s going to contain some more Sandler and some high quality movies that’ll make Netflix stand above the competition.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny

Expected Release Date : February 26, 2016

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Sword Of Destiny

If Martial Arts is your thing then you’re probably already aware of the existence of the original Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon but you may not be aware of the impending release of a Netflix Original sequel arriving on Netflix in just a couple of months time.

In the sequel a band of legendary warriors protects a 400-year-old sword known as “The Green Destiny.”

Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday

Expected Release Date : March 2016

Peewee Big Holiday Netflix Original

Filmed in the early stages of 2015, Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday is scheduled to be released sometime in early 2016. The movie is a special, if you will, for the TV series of the same name. Written and starring Paul Reubens it’s about the comedy character that takes some time off and goes on his first ever holiday.

I’ve always compared Pee-Wee to the American version of Mr. Bean so if that’s your thing, this should be on your radar when it’s expected to launch in March.

The Do-Over

Expected Release Date : Late 2016

Sandler The Do Over

We went over some initial details on what Adam Sandlers second movie will entail but there’s still a lot to learn about the movie. In our expanded introduction to Sandler’s second exclusive movie, we’ve gone through the cast list along with who’s writing it.

The plot will be about two guys who reinvent themselves by assuming the identity of other people only to then find out that those two individuals are in deeper trouble.

Jadotville

Expected Release Date : 2016

Jadotville

Jadotville at the moment, is Netflix’s biggest Original movie scheduled to hit the service in 2016, no pressure. The war drama will provide a movie adaptation to the famous battle that took place in central Africa during September of 1961. The film stars Jamie Dornan who had his biggest hit to date last year with the global sensation, Fifty Shades of Grey.

Mascots

Expected Release Date : 2016

Mascots Netflix Original Movie

Christopher Guest has been relatively quiet since his theatrical release of “For Your Consideration” back in 2006 but has teased his first project that will release sometime in 2016. The movie is expected to be in a mockumentary styled format following the events of the 8th World Mascot championships where they compete for the Golf Fluffy Award.

The True Memoirs of an International Assassin

Expected Release Date : 2016

The True Memoirs Of An International Assassin

If the Adam Sandler movies leave a sour taste in your mouth then the upcoming Kevin James movie isn’t likely to tickle your fancy either. Netflix acquired the movie from the comedian Kevin James back in May of this year at the Cannes film festival. It has some impressive names on the bill and off the camera though, with Kick Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow on board alongside producers including Kevin Frakes, Todd Garner and Raja Collins.

This movie is a no brainer for Netflix as Kevin James, like Sandler, is able to attract a wide and broad global audience to the service after successful hits like “Grown Ups” and his own hit, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”.

War Machine

Expected Release Date : 2016

War Machine Netflix Brad Pitt

In June of this year it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to stream Brad Pitt’s latest venture, War Machine. The satirical comedy is relatively new for the actor who’s predominantly known for his role in high budget action movies. It’s based upon the book called “The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan”.

Pitt will play a US military general who is a little disillusioned on the complexity on winning the war.

So there are the currently announced Netflix Original Movies heading our way in 2016 with more likely to be announced throughout the year. As you can see, Netflix’s initiative to grow in the movies market is certainly going to be making waves in 2016 with some of the best talent going.

These movies combined with the Disney contract means movie lovers are in for a great year.
