Netflix will be getting a whole batch of Dreamworks titles throughout 2018. There’ll be up to two brand new movies coming and a whole batch of new Netflix Original children’s series. We’ve got the scoop below on when you’ll be watching them with your Netflix subscription.
Dreamworks and Netflix will be looking to strengthen their partnership once again throughout 2018 with six currently announced TV series. They’ve been producing for many years already with titles like Trollhunters and How To Train Your Dragon.
The movie deal, where new titles come to Netflix around nine months after their release which is particularly useful as this is the final year of the Disney partnership.

New Movies
Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
Releasing on Netflix: January 2018
Released in cinemas on the 24th of July 2017, ‘Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie’ is an animated superhero comedy based on the children’s book series of the same name. Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll, and Tomas Middleditch all star as voices in the animated movie. The plot follows the mischievous, but imaginative school pranksters George Beard (Hart) and Harold Hitchins (Middleditch), who in a stroke of genius decide to hypnotize their incredibly strict principal, Mr Krupp into thinking he’s the underwear wearing, somewhat dim-witted superhero Captain Underpants.
Madagascar 4
Releasing on Netflix: Fall 2018
Following from the success of the first three films produced by Dreamworks, and the spin-off film ‘Penguins of Madagascar‘, it was only a matter of time till a fourth movie was announced. The films star many great voices, including, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith, who all voice members of the animal kingdom who have escaped from New York Central Zoo. The third film ends with the group joining a European circus, and currently, no details have been released about the plot of the fourth film.
New TV Series
Trolls: The Beat Goes On!
Releasing on Netflix: January 19th, 2018
This new Dreamworks show will pick up from where the recent 2016 ‘Trolls’ film left off. Once again following the adventures of Poppy, Branch and everyone in the mystical Troll Village. Branch will be voiced by Skyla Astin (Pitch Perfect) and Poppy by Amanda Leighton (This is Us), and all the songs will be written and produced by the insanely talented Alanda Da Fonseca.
The Adventures of Puss in Boots – Season 6
Releasing on Netflix: January 26th, 2018
The fairy tale of Puss in Boots was first created back in 1550 and has since been brought into pop culture by the 2004 film ‘Shrek 2‘. Puss in Boots has even had his own full feature movie, and his Netflix/DreamWorks series started back in 2015. The series follows Puss in the mysterious city of San Lorenzo, which had been previously shrouded from the outside world until Puss breaks the spell. Now he must protect the city from an endless stream of evil invaders after a mystic treasure. The sixth season is set to stream worldwide on Netflix on the 26th of January.
The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show – Season 5

The fifth season of The Mr. Peabody & Sherman show is set to release sometime in 2018. The series started one year after the theatrical release of ‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’, a film following the time-travelling adventures of a highly intelligent dog and his adopted son. The characters are originally from the 1960s TV show ‘The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show’. This Netflix series takes a slighly different route to the film and features the duo hosting a TV talk show, coving the many time-related stories they have to tell.
Voltron: Legendary Defender – Season 5

Originally based on the 1980s animated series ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe’, this new Dreamworks series uses a mix of traditional animation techniques influenced by anime (only using CG for the action scenes). The first season debuted on Netflix in 2016 and since then they’ve done a great job of producing and releasing another 3 series during 2017. The show follows five teenagers who quickly get wrapped up in a huge intergalactic war after becoming the Paladins of Voltron. The 1980s series is also available to stream on Netflix right now.
Trollhunters – Season 3

If you’re a movie fan, you’ve probably heard of Guillermo del Toro. But what you might not know is that he created the Trollhunters series for Netflix back in 2016. The show follows Jim Lake Jr. (voiced by the late Anton Yelchin) an ordinary kid who, as most kids do, yearns for adventure. But after Jim finds a mysterious amulet, he is given the role of “Trollhunter” and transported to the secret civilization of Arcadia where he must fend off the evil Darkland trolls. The show has picked up significant traction with both adults and kids and its third and last season will debut sometime in 2018.
She-Ra

Based on the 1985-87 show ‘She-Ra: Princess of Power’ this new modern take is set to appeal to a new generation of young fans. The 80s show was originally created to fill the demand for a badass female fantasy hero, and it defiantly did so. The new series will be produced by the award-winning and great Noelle Stevenson, so we have no doubt this re-imagining will be great.
The Boss Baby: Back in Business

After the relative success of ‘The Boss Baby’ earlier in 2017, starring Alec Baldwin as the suit-wearing, highly intelligent baby. A Netflix series is being produced, which will be written and produced by Brandon Sawyer (Penguins of Madagascar). The series will pick up where the film left off and continue to follow Boss Baby and his older brothers antics throughout Baby Corp.
Harvey Street Kids

Audrey, Lotta and Dot are the Harvey Street Girls, they will do anything to keep the Harvey Street the best block in town! Originally appearing in issues of Harvey Comics which was founded back in 1941, Dreamworks will be re-inventing the series for all our Netflix screens in 2018. Brendan Hay will be at the helm of the show (Dawn of the Croods), with help from Aliki Theofilopoulos (Phineas & Ferb).
The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants

It’s a good year for any Captain Underpants fans. As well as the movie coming to Netflix in January 2018, an additional series will also be introduced to Netflix. George Beard and Harold Hitchins have always been especially deviant pranksters, always infuriating their strict principal Mr Krupp. But one day they decide to take it a step further and make the amazing Captain Underpants a reality. The show will be produced by Peter Hastings, who’s also behind Kung Fu Panda and Animaniacs.
