October 2016 will likely see Netflix renewing The CW’s biggest shows including Arrow, The Flash, iZombie, Supernatural and more. Given that we cover what’s coming to Netflix a lot here on What’s on Netflix we thought we’d give you a complete preview of all of The CW content we suspect Netflix will renew and some speculation as to any of the networks new shows that may come to Netflix.
I should note that while this is mostly speculation but, particularly in the case of the shows that are being renewed, these predictions are pretty solid given that the release calendar works in yearly cycles for these titles. Next year will be a little more difficult to predict as a new deal struck between The CW and Netflix earlier this year includes the fact that TV series will be released much earlier than this current cycle meaning we could get the shows refreshed on Netflix just a month after they air. We’ll have more on this as we learn of new details.
The CW has already seen two big shows of theirs already renewed on Netflix so far this year. One was Supergirl season 1, which landed in early September and Jane the Virgin season 2, which landed in the summer.
The Flash (Season 2) / Arrow (Season 4)
The CW is the unrivalled home for DC TV content, much like Netflix is the home of Marvel TV content. While newcomers like Supergirl and DC Legends of Tomorrow fight for the right to be the number one show and old timers such as Smallville still has a special place in most people’s heart, The Flash and Arrow are the winners in being the top DC series on The CW right now. Both adapted from their comic book counterparts, both series have been praised for being great renditions of the comics and pushing them to new levels. The Flash tells the story of a boy who gains super-speed and Arrow of a minted playboy who uses stealth and his bow to fight crime.
Last year, Arrow released on October 7th and The Flash on October 5th. It’s likely that we’ll see them again release relatively closely in the early stages of October 2016
iZombie (Season 2)
iZombie is another comic book adaptation for The CW although not as obvious or advertised as it is in the case of Arrow and The Flash. It tells the story of a smart young girl who has her life turned upside down after being on a boat party and contracting a virus which turns her into a brain feeding zombie. She uses these new found abilities to help investigate people’s deaths as she learns of victims past when eating their brains.
Last year, iZombie released on Netflix on October 5th so that would be a pretty good estimation as to when season 2 will be available on Netflix.
The Vampire Diaries (Season 7) / The Originals (Season 3)
Both The Vampire Diaries and its spinoff, The Originals are expected to get their latest seasons added to Netflix in October too. The two supernatural dramas has everything you’d want out of a horror fantasy; Werewolves, Witches, Vampires, Ghosts and more.
Last year, both shows were renewed early in the month with The Vampire Diaries getting its latest season on October 2nd and The Originals on October 5th.
Supernatural Season 11
There’s a reason why Supernatural is now heading into its twelve season. It’s great. First airing in 2005, the show, while having many similar traits to The Vampire Diaries, is infinitely better in almost every way.
Last year, Supernatural was renewed on October 7th, so you can expect a similar renewal this year too.
The 100 Season 3
The 100 heads up The CW’s sci-fi lineup and for good reason. Its intense conflicts and interesting premise keeps you glued from week to week. It focusses on 100 kids who are sent down to Earth to make sure it’s habitable again by human life. It’s not.
Season 1 was added last year fairly late into the month on October 22nd. It wasn’t announced in the preview but we suspect it will this year.
