Netflix has really started pushing the original series as of late determining that would be the way to gain and retain Netflix users. TV Guide is currently determining that Netflix has bought the rights to Marco Polo which will be a historical drama that will document the adventures of the famous Italian explorer.
Originally commissioned by Starz back a few years ago it’s stalled in development and has since been dropped it’s been assummed. Netflix will either start again from scratch or continue where Starz left off.
This news comes after Reed Hastings (Netflix CEO) said he wants to double what Netflix produces in the next year which currently stands at around 4 series which are House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, Arrested Development and more recently Orange is the New Black.
What do you think should they buy up the rights? Is original programming the right way to go?
