Will There Be a Marco Polo Season 3?

Marco Polo season 2 was absolutely brilliant, finally living up to its potential as a contender to Game of Thrones in the Netflix arsenal. While it definitely ramped everything up in almost every department, it’s a massive show with a matching budget, which could be a limiting factor for a third season, especially if viewership isn’t high enough.

As mentioned earlier, season 2 addressed all the problems of the first season and truly amped up the theatrics.

So, where did season 2 leave us? (Spoiler alert) The day of the kurultai arrived, shaping Kublai’s fate as khan. Ahmed made his final stand, and Marco learned a shocking truth that will likely haunt him for the rest of his life. The season reached a climax, but not in a way that would leave the series closed. There’s so much more to see and experience within this world.

The budget seems to be the biggest hurdle for a third season, considering the large-scale production involved. Shows like Game of Thrones can film in multiple locations simultaneously. Marco Polo, however, requires the actors to be close together, making filming a long and drawn-out process, difficult to fit within a yearly release schedule.

We can’t imagine Netflix skipping a third season altogether, but it’s more likely that we’ll see another special episode first, similar to the Christmas special focusing on One Hundred Eyes that aired last year, who then became a major character in season 2.

In conclusion, we believe a third season of Marco Polo is highly likely, but with a special episode next year and a potential season 3 release in late 2017 or 2018.

What do you think? Should Netflix give Marco Polo a third season?
