Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Recommended by Kasey Moore from What’s on Netflix

Let’s be honest, this series isn’t going to fit everyone’s tastes. The frankly over the top characters and insane scenarios are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea but if that’s your sort of thing then Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is going to be a Netflix Original you seriously need to binge from start to finish.

With a lot of the team from 30 Rock transitioning to work on the project you can clearly see that Unbreakable is inspired by that title, but holds its own in creating a fantastic new original comedy on Netflix. The series takes place in a modern day New York as Kimmy learns to adjust to modern day life after being trapped in a doomsday underground bunker for most of her life. Series 1 impressed and we can’t wait for more.

Chinatown (1974)

Recommended by Tim Colman from What’s on Netflix

For fans of Jack Nicholson, Chinatown was one of his early triumphs. Directed by Roman Polanski and co-staring Faye Dunaway, Chinatown was released in 1974 and won an Oscar for the screenplay. Chinatown is a movie with a strong plot and is a truly worthy watch.

Chinatown tells the story of a private detective specialising in divorce who becomes tangled in an investigation involving the murder of his clients husband. He gets involved with the wife and quickly discovers that she is not telling the whole truth. Far from it.

From the Rough (2013)

Recommended by Jasmin Pease from What’s on Netflix

from-the-rough-2013

“From the Rough” is a 2013 film, based on the true story of Catana Starks, who became the first African-American woman ever to coach an all men’s team, at the collegiate level. Stars Taraji P. Henson (Empire, Hustle & Flow, Baby Boy), Tom Felton (Harry Potter series) and Henry Simmons (NYPD Blue, Marvel’s Agents of Shield). If you’re in need of an inspirational, feel-good movie, this is for you.

Avid golf fans will cringe at the character’s golf skills (or lack there of), but the hard work and dedication of the players makes the film worth watching. Stay tuned after the movie for actual pics & info of the “real life” people & their accomplishments.
